Closet Door Repair in Ottawa — Sliding & Bifold

Closet doors get used several times a day and are built to the cheapest spec in the house, so they fail first and they fail predictably. Nearly all of it is track, roller and pivot hardware — the doors themselves are usually fine.

$115–$200 per opening, parts included on most jobs

Common problems we fix

What actually turns up on these calls in Ottawa homes, and what each one really means.

Sliding doors keep coming off the track

Worn rollers, or a top track that has bowed away from the header. Rollers are a cheap replaceable part; a bowed track needs re-fastening into solid framing before new rollers will hold.

Bifold doors drop at the outside corner

The pivot pin at the bottom bracket has worn or the bracket has shifted along the track. Reset and adjusted for height, which also fixes the gap along the top edge nobody realised was related.

The doors will not sit flush when closed

One panel is proud of the other. Roller height is adjustable on most units and this is a five-minute fix that people live with for years.

The track is bent or dented

Usually from something heavy going into the closet. A dented track will never run smoothly — it gets replaced, not straightened.

Mirrored doors are loose in the frame

The retaining clips have released. This one matters for safety more than function, and it gets dealt with the same visit.

How the work is done

  1. 1

    Pull and inspect

Doors off, hardware assessed — most of the diagnosis is in the rollers.

  2. 2

    Track first

Re-secured into framing or replaced if deformed.

  3. 3

    New hardware

Rollers, pivots and brackets replaced rather than adjusted when worn.

  4. 4

    Level and align

Height set so panels sit flush and run without binding.

What it costs

Most single closet openings are $115–$200 including standard roller and pivot hardware. Full track replacement adds $50–$110 in parts. A house full of closet doors is best done in one visit — it is the same setup repeated.

Frequently asked — Closet Door Repair Ottawa

Is it worth repairing closet doors or should I replace them?

Repair, in most cases. The hardware is what fails and it costs a fraction of new doors. Replacement makes sense when the panels are damaged or you want a different style.

Do you carry the hardware with you?

Common roller and pivot sets, yes. Unusual or older proprietary track systems sometimes need a part ordered, which means a second short visit.

Can bifold doors be made to open more smoothly?

Usually yes. Most bifolds bind because the top pivot and bottom bracket are not aligned to each other, not because the hinges are stiff.
